As the
lapping and polishing industries continue to evolve, the
Compounds used in these applications have also evolved.
GE Micron Products offers a complete line of Diamond and
Borazon Compounds specifically tailored to improve the performance
of lapping and polishing processes. The ultimate goal is
to achieve the highest surface quality and consistency for
the end user of the product. GE Compounds takes polishing
from an art to a science!
The
advantage of GE is based on creating, developing and testing
the most effective combination of the powder and the carrier
in the compound. GE is the world’s foremost global producer
of industrial diamond and leader in the Six Sigma Quality
Effort. That knowledge coupled with the 50+ years of micronizing
experience through the acquisition of Kay Industrial Diamond
= Micron Powders with the best quality, control, and consistency
in the industry.
We focus
on constantly improving the following Micron Powder Characteristics:
Size
(Elimination of Superfines and Oversize),
Shape (Quantitative Data Ex. Aspect Ratio vs Qualitative)
Crystal Purity (Elimination of Particle Contamination)
Crystal Strength (Toughness Tests with respect to
work piece material)
Just
as important as the powder is choosing and effective carrier
to produce a high performing compound. The principle aim
of a carrier in a compound is to suspend each particle of
diamond uniformly without agglomeration or carrier separation.
All of these while withstanding pressure and temperatures
that occur during the various lapping processes. GE Micron
Products manufactures carriers that are classified into
three categories:
Oil
Soluble - Recommended for controlled lapping of carbide
drawing dies, cold heading dies and numerous other polishing
applications.
Water Soluble - Used where exceptional cleaning and
lubricity is required and where petroleum contamination
is prohibited.
Water/Oil Soluble - Complements the use of oil as well
as water for achieving more productive results and facilitating
cleaning.
