About Me, Professional

In 8th grade, in a typing class with Mr. John Feller, I first discovered the computer… or at least, an Apple IIe and the Macintosh… little did I know, that it would lead me to where I am today…

Newcomerstown High School

Attending Newcomerstown High School (NHS) in Newcomerstown, Ohio, I quickly realized that I had a knack for computers and how to operate them. After realizing that early on during my freshman year, it allowed me to spend my years at NHS assisting Mr. Craig Collins (Nct. Schools’ Technology Coordinator) install, maintain, and upgrade three labs, including the Technology Lab added during my Junior year. In that lab, I was able to reconfigure and modify several programs to operate under Windows 95 that were only designed for Windows 3.1.

In addition to my services for NHS, I also provided computer work to numerous individuals and businesses in Newcomerstown. These include hardware and software work for Bush Trucking, the Newcomerstown News, Lookout Janitorial, Ross Construction and Ross Collector Cards, Steve Hildreth, Jason Bush, Jeff Cook, Pat Cadle, and many many others. I thank them all for their support, and I thank all of those people that I’m leaving out.

My experience with hardware support includes, but is not limited to Motherboard & CPU upgrades, RAM upgrades, Hard Drive upgrades & replacements, installation of CD-ROM’s, modems, sound cards, and scanners among many other types of hardware. Server and desktop upgrades for systems made by Dell, Compaq, HP, and IBM have also been performed on multiple occasions. Hardware clustering using Windows NT Server 4.0 Enterprise Edition has also been performed, and I also have experience with Windows 2000 clustering. I have an entry-level knowledge of most Cisco equipment including switches, routers, and firewalls. And my primary focus has included the installation and troubleshooting of network hardware and software.

My experience with software includes all Microsoft operating systems including Windows 3.x, Windows 95 / 98 / 98SE / Millennium, Windows NT 3.5 / 4.0 / 2000 / XP / 2003 Server, and even MS-DOS. I am also quite familiar with Microsoft Office, Exchange, SMS, SQL, Proxy, IIS, Site Server, Visio, Publisher, Project, and Money. On the non-MS front, I have working knowledge of Peachtree Accounting, and all Adobe – PageMaker, PhotoShop, Illustrator – and Lotus – SmartSuite, Domino Server & Notes R5 – products. Finally, I have working web design experience with Macromedia Dreamweaver, Allaire Homesite, and Microsoft FrontPage. This web page is created in Dreamweaver. I also have experience with AS/400 terminal emulation software including Rally and Extra.

Other technical experience includes web design and technical writing and presentations, examples of which can be seen on this web site. I have written several How-To guides for setting up systems, and at all of my jobs, I have been responsible for documenting the system configurations that were used. Presentation experiences have included presentations to Governor Voinovich of Ohio in regards to Community Services performed at Newcomerstown High School, DeVry Institute of Technology Professor Lynna Kalna in regards to using Microsoft PowerPoint for Presentations, GE Plastics Senior Vice President William Woodburn regarding GE Micron integration strategies with GE Superabrasives and E-commerce design for both sites.

Turning Technologies

From May 2007 through September 2008, I worked for Turning Technologies as their Desktop Support Specialist and Systems Administrator. This required day-to-day management of all their desktop, laptop, and server systems, printers, and applications. Working with the network Administrator, Corey Davoll, we were the ultimate Information Technology tag-team. Turning Technologies is the leading maker of Audience Response Systems, and it was a great experience working with so many tech-minded individuals.

Muskingum College

From January 2004 through May 2007, I worked for the Computer and Network Services department at Muskingum College. My role for most of that time was that of Web Coordinator. This role required me to provide daily management of the college web site including error-reporting, navigation concerns, and back-end form/script management. Initially, I was a senior-student helpdesk analyst. This role involved both phone and on-site support of faculty, staff, and student PC’s, network connectivity and security issues, and virus/spyware removal. Within CNS, I setup a Symantec Antivirus Corporate Edition server that maintains our antivirus clients. As the Finney Hall and Lakeside Residential Computing Advisor (RCA), I was responsible for supporting the network connection of all students living in either of those residential areas on campus.

MSN - Microsoft Network

From June 2002 through October 2003, I served voluntarily as a Host for MSN CityChats under the leadership of Guide_VickyF. During this time, I served as "Town Mayor" and "Group Leader", both being positions of leadership within our hosting staff. Serving in these positions, I was able to offer both guidance and technical support to many other hosts. As Group Leader, I had direct managerial leadership over 75 hosts. As Town Mayor, I developed many security procedures to make our work easier and stop problem chatters. With the programming talents of a friend of mine, Pres_Fltsimbuff, I was able to provide CityChats with a utility known as Seeker, that allowed us to track hosts’ room assignments. I also served as Guide_Paradigm for a few months where I was responsible for assisting users in the International HelpDesk.

Gulfstream Assets

In December 2000, I took a network administrator position with Gulfstream Assets (web site not available), a day-trading firm in West Palm Beach, FL. It was a very small division of a bigger trading firm, Momentum Securities (web site not available) but it was an independent office, so everything is controlled and operated from this local office. There were only 6 people including myself, and 20 systems (including servers) to manage. Effective February 20, 2002, I left my position with Gulfstream to seek other employment due to financial restraints in the business. In my time at Gulfstream, I provided end-user support to traders using Windows NT and 2000 operating environments, and was responsible for immediate response time to time-sensitive issues.

WildCard Systems

From June 2000 to December 2000, I was employed at WildCard Systems, Inc. which is a leading technology provider and processor for Stored Value Card technology. They teamed up with VISA to launch the VisaBuxx campaign. I was on a team of Network Administrators whose sole purpose is to keep the business’ systems running 24 / 7. The business runs the back-end applications and systems that allow companies to handle stored-value card and credit-card transactions. My role in Wildcard required 24/7 monitoring of critical financial and Internet systems operating on Windows NT and 2000 foundation.

General Electric

Before WildCard, I was employed at f="http://www.abrasivesnet.com/en/" target="_blank">GE Micron Products in Deerfield Beach, FL. GEMP is a subdivision of the GE Specialty Materials business of General Electric Company. I maintained their network systems, phone and security systems, and PC’s. I should also mention that in the months prior to my leaving, I designed the initial version of the Micron web page. Prior to that, I was employed at GE Superabrasives (the sister company of GE Micron) in Worthington, OH. GE Micron Products and GE Superabrasives focus on industrial diamond products and their applications. All in all, I was with GE for 3 incredible years. Hopefully, at some point, I can return to a position in GE. Update: A company known as "LittleJohn & Co., LLC" (a Greenwich Connecticut-based company) acquired GE Superabrasives and GE Micron from General Electric. They are now known as Diamond Innovations, Inc.
